Art is the earliest form of visual communication, from the caveman drawings of ancient times to the modern artforms of today. However over the years we have lost our way. We have become so achievement orientated that we measure our efforts by results rather than our own feelings of
satisfaction in our work. Art is often inhibited by outside influences in a bid to be
successful and create a "masterpiece". They compromise, imitate and worry too much about the end result before setting up a starting point. If you do not let your creativity guide you, learning and building from your mistakes along the way, then you actually prevent your true artistic potential. Do not think of your pieces as "finished", as tehy will always grow with a life of their own and teach you their own lessons.
Art isn't an energy that is released when the artist is producing art and then ceases to exist when the work is done. It is an experience that is constant and part of our existence. Artists cannot observe anything without an image forming and being filed away in the artistic corner of the mind, whether consciously in the hope that it can be accessed at a later time, or unconsciously in an uncontrolled and unpredictable concept. All art is a perception, a group of feelings and thoughts in relation to personal response. There is indeed nothing new on the planet, all ideas and themes have been thought of before, there is only what has been restated with an unfamiliar, individual spin.
That is the true nature of art.

I think most people forget that art galleries tend to prefer classical or fine art than more individual and unique styles, science fiction for instance, which I'm very partial to (particularly from the likes of Peter Jones, Jim Burns, and Chris Frey). The big-wigs of high or fine art don't even consider this as art, which is a real shame. Bunch of bloody snobs!

I plan to open in a new gallery soon...
Also a great magazine I used to by before it went monthly was JUXTAPOZ. It offered all types of styles and influences in art by a lot people who were considered underground artists and not generally accepted by the ..uh.. Snobs.
